The Reverend Jeffrey (Jeff) Murphy MDiv BCC has been an BCCI Certified Chaplain since 1993. He served as a staff chaplain at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS from 2003 to 2019 and currently serves as the chaplain at Tyson Foods in Mississippi. Chaplain Murphy is endorsed by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and holds a Bachelor of Arts from William Cary College and a Master of Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Chaplain Murphy has been of service to the Association of Professional Chaplains and the Board of Chaplaincy Certification, Inc., for more than 30 years, serving as APC state representative for Mississippi and as a National Coordinator for APC’s State Representatives. He has also volunteered to serve on several APC Committees, including the Membership and Communications Committee as well as special taskforce and strategic plan workgroups. In 2007, Chaplain Murphy was awarded the Outstanding Local Leadership Award by APC.
Chaplain Murphy has also lent his passion and talents to BCCI, helping to guide new chaplains into the profession through the process of certification. Chaplain Murphy has volunteered on numerous certification committees and was previously the Certification Chair for Area 8. Chaplain Murphy has volunteered to lead multiple Professional Support Calls, aiding his colleagues through difficult times. His compassion and dedication are consistently present in his volunteer and professional work.
From 2014 until 2021, Chaplain Murphy was a member of the APC and BCCI Board of Directors. In 2023, he served as the APC Annual Conference Chair, leading the event volunteers and APC Staff through the first in-person conference since 2019 to great success. Chaplain Murphy continues to lend his talents to APC in the form of offering educational webinars, volunteering on certification committees and serving on APC Committees. His legacy of contributions and his continued service to the profession of chaplaincy and APC show how deserving Chaplain Murphy is of receiving the 2024 Anton Boisen Professional Service Award.
